Q -  How many games do teams play?

A - Instructional Division is played every Saturday morning at 9AM. Challenger Division is played every Friday evening at 6PM only. All other's play a schedule within their division. All teams are schedule extra games to allow for cancellations (13 to 15 games). Generally teams have 2 games per week one on a weeknight and one on a weekend. There are no makeup games if games are cancelled in the event of inclement weather. It is nearly impossible to schedule on the same days each week due to field and permit limitations.

Q -  How do I find out if games are cancelled because of weather?

A - You can call the rain hotline at 516-354-0109. This line is updated in the event of inclement weather on a field by field basis. If no update is posted for the field in which you are scheduled to play then you will need to contact your team's manager for the status of the game. (Please remember that if you are aware of rain prior to a game being played either at night of Saturday and Sunday mornings we could sure use a hand to prepare the fields for the day. If you are available please come to the fields early and help out!)

Q -  When are practices held?

A - Since your child's coach/manager is regularly a working parent such as yourself, practices are generally scheduled for after work hours and on weekends. Normally a coach will have one or two practices a week until the season starts then perhaps once a week.

Q -  Where are practices held?

A - Generally speaking if practices are held during the weekday prior to 5:00pm they can be held at Merillon Fields otherwise scheduled games take preference. Therefore other practice fields are Manor Oaks school, Hillside Grade school or Dietz Dairy. Directions to all of these locations can be found in our "Directions" area of the website.

Q -  What if my child is excelling better than the age group he/she is in, can they be moved up a division?

A - All children must play within their age group. The only exception to this rule is in our Majors Division. Once a child reaches age 11 and was previously chosen to participate on a All Star team at age 10 the previous year, he is automatically rated to play in our Majors Division (11 & 12 year olds). Any player who does not make the Majors Division will play in the Minors Division (10 and 11 year olds).

Q -  What if my child is falling behind the other children, can he/she be moved down a division?

A - The parent should reach out to the Player Agent of Merillon via email at: merillonaa@optonline.net or by regular mail to: Merillon AA, PO box 2144 - Hillside, New Hyde Park, NY 11040. Once receiving your concern a meeting will be held between the players former coach and league officials to determine if your child qualifies to be moved to a lower Division.

Q - I requested that my child be placed on the same team as his or her friend, but they were placed on separate teams. Why can't my child play on the same team as his or her friend?

A - All requests will be honored in the Instructional Division.

Although every effort is made to honor requests in Boys Lower Farms & Girls Farms Divisions it is sometimes difficult to accomplish because of the number of players and teams that are involved. At the younger ages the main objective for the league is to have an even number of playing ages on any given team. (e.g. six 6 year olds and six 7 year olds)

In all divisions ages 8 and up requests will not be taken. Our first priority is to balance teams. The policy at this age is to have balance amongst all teams within each Division.

We ask that you consider our club policy and guidelines before making a request.

Please click here to submit your request through our Player Agent via email at: merillonaa@optonline.net.

Q -  My child would like to pitch and play short-stop. Why does he or she spend most of his or her time playing outfield?

A - During practice sessions, each Manager and Coach is able to obtain a perspective on each child's skill level at various field positions. Generally speaking, a Manager or Coach is free to place a child in the particular field position that he or she feels will match the child's skill level and that the child will excel at, while being helpful to the team. Both Merillon and Little League rules encourages all Managers and Coaches to maximize the number of field positions played by all team players. If you feel the need to communicate such a request to your child's Manager of Coach please feel free to do so at the appropriate time and in a inoffensive manner.

Q - Does my child have to attend Picture Day?

A - All players are required to participate in Picture Day for a Team Photo (for their team sponsor) along with the option to have individual pictures taken. Sponsors pay for the right to sponsor a team and are proud to display a plaque that we supply to them thanking them for their sponsorship and support. This plaque incorporates the team picture. Also, sponsorships help us to keep the registration fee's to a minimum and to help maintain and upgrade the complex and equipment as needed for our children.
