Boys Instructional Division

Spring Description: This division is for all boys and girls in Pre-K and Kindergarten ( 6 years old if this is their first year of playing instructional baseball with Merillon AA). The instructional program is intended to introduce children to the game of baseball. Instruction of the fundamentals, teamwork and fun of the game is stressed. The Instructional Division runs from opening day through Championship Saturday. The Instructional Division meets every Saturday morning at 9:00am in the middle of Merillon Park. The morning is broken up into two periods of 45 minutes each. Children are taught fundamentals, throwing, fielding, hitting and running the bases. Followed by a second 45 minute period where t-ball games are played. For the first half of the season players hit off a batting tee during the second half players hit off coach pitching (if ready). In games players rotate positions in the field and play with a safety ball.  Although there is a schedule and games played, competitiveness is minimized and scores and standings are not kept. Every inning each team bats around regardless of the amount of outs or score. Games are played to a 45 minute time limit regardless of innings.  Participation trophies are awarded at the end of the Spring Season on Championship Saturday. All games are at the Merillon Complex.

Summer Description: The summer division is for boys who are 5 and have completed the “Instructional” program and boys who are 6 and 7 years old (based on the child's league age as April 30, 2011). It is intended to further develop the skills of throwing, catching and hitting. Games are played using modified Little League rules. A injury reduced baseball is used. This ball is much softer than regulation Little League baseballs.  Players will participate in official games. Batters will hit against coaches’ pitching and/or off a Tee. Game rules are covered in more detail. It is intended to further develop skills learned during the Spring Instructional Program and Spring Lower Farms Program. There will be 2 games per week  nights only for a total of  8 games.

Fall Description: The "Fall Program" is designed for boys and girls ages 5 and 6 years old, based on enrollment. It is intended to further develop the skills of throwing, catching and hitting.
